Beauty products you can't do without.
Oh, I love Foam Cleanser by NARS. It's what I use on my face in the morning. And I can't do without it. It refreshes and cleanses my face...I have combination skin and this works well for me. I also love Clarins Gentle Exfoliator. It's good for sloughing off dead skin cells and leaves my skin looking clean and smooth.
What things do you do to keep looking good?
I think the most important, I drink lots and lots of water. Doesn't cost anything and flushes out the system and clears the skin. I used to drink fizzy drinks, but not any more. They contain loads of sugar and additives, none of which is good for the skin. These days I drink lots of freshly squeezed fruit juices. I tend to stay away from processed fruit drinks because they don't have a long shelve life anyway. Also, they tend to have a lot of sugar and additives as well. So, now, we make melon juice, apple juice, orange and all the rest at home and drink it straight away.
I also love doing stretches in the morning before I have my bath. I find it wakes me up and energises me. I just put on some music and stretch and dance and sing to it. Sometimes, I just shout, I just let it all out and afterwards, I feel light and refreshed, ready to face the day.
I do go to the gym, but basically on Saturday mornings. It's not really to lose weight, but to maintain the body. You need exercise to keep the body taut and toned. All I do is twenty minutes on the treadmill and then twenty minutes doing floor exercises.
The best beauty advice I ever received
When I was growing up, my mother always used to tell me that the first thing you should always do when you wake up is get your toothbrush and brush your teeth. You have to be presentable in the mornings. None of that flying hair, and when you want to speak to someone, you have to cover your mouth. Cleanliness is part of beauty and even if you have just woken up, brush your hair and your teeth and look presentable. I still follow that till today.
Other morning rituals
I also love my tea. Earls Gray and I like my herbal teas as well… things like chamomile herbal tea. I think I just take these out of habit, but I feel they complete my day. At work, I tend to drink tea a couple of times a day as well.
My fashion sense and style
I'm a firm believer in less is more. I would say I'm a classic dresser. For me, comfort comes first. I'm not about to put something on just because it's in vogue; won’t be wearing five inch heels if it's not practical, thank you very much. It's all a matter of individual taste, and after sometime, you get to know what suits you, what's your own personal style. I like classic things: smart trousers, dresses… I want to wear a dress that I don't need to keep pulling down. It has to be something I'm comfortable in. I go for the classics, I don't go for the trends because I can't keep up with the trends and it's too expensive. It's foolish even to try because then you become a slave to fashion.
There are a couple of designers that I love right now...Era Dappa, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi. And when I want to go all out, it's Deola Sagoe.
You wouldn't catch me dead in…
Shorts...of any kind. I mean, I do have a sports pair for the gym, but that's it. You would not catch me wearing shorts anywhere else. I don't like anything that is ankle length. I like my trousers or skirts on the tip of my toe.
Hair care
I've always liked my hair medium length, to around the nape of my neck and I have tended to stick with that for years. I'm very old fashioned like that. I like hair weaves and I use them. I like my hair wavy most of all and always stick close to my natural colour. I tend to stick to about 10 inches. I don't think I will ever cut my hair. ..I had a low cut in school for one year, but I really don't think it's for me. These days, I spot my gray hairs quite nicely.
