He comes highly recommended. Jerry Jide Obi knows his onions as a make-up artist. Those who have seen his work commend him - and he has not stopped learning how to make women more beautiful...
How long have you been a make-up artiste?
I have been doing make-up professionally for four years but I started a long time ago making over friends and family.
What inspired you and what is your company's name? And why the name?
I have always had the passion for making people look beautiful. I got inspired by the beautiful things of life. I have the passion for improving things around me, making them look better - not just people. Beautifying people is my primary concern, the transformation that results from it gives me the desire to beautify more.
The name of my company is Lord of Chamz. Complimentary remarks about my works brought about the name, Lord of Chamz. I get messages from time to time, some will call saying, "you're very good, keep it up," while some say I should be called, the god of make-up. If I were not good they won't be saying all that. Also, the call and commendation I got from the editor of Elle magazine that they want me to work with them as a result of the make-up I did for Bunmi Ademokoya (Best Model of the World) attests to my excellence. I am very happy that I've been able to express my talent and creativity and so far, it has been good.
Is beauty in the eyes of the beholder?
Honestly, I don't think beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. We are not in the realm of metaphysics, this is the actual world and nowadays there is an objective test for beauty. It is no more subjective. A group of men can say whether a particular girl is beautiful or not. This is why I do my best to make my clients beautiful by all standards. However, there is, a general acceptability of what beauty is no matter the beholder.
Can't one be naturally beautiful, why make over?
Everybody is naturally beautiful, but there are aspects of one's beauty that need to be enhanced, embellished. More so, if we remain natural and exposed to wear and tear, our beauty will fade. This is why cosmetics support what we already have. For example, the skin needs to be constantly moisturized to makeup for loss of water and essential oils and also protect it from ultra-violet rays from the sun. That's why I think dark skin is a gift because of its composition which prevents premature aging, skin cancer and skin blemishes caused by harsh weather or climate. Even within the harsh weather or climate, natural beauty should be protected by make over.
